Icon of Hegesippus (chronicler)

Hegesippus

c. 110 – 180 · Early church historians · Palestinian Jewish-Christian

Second-century Christian historian whose five-volume Hypomnemata (Memoirs) traced the apostolic succession of the major sees from the apostles to his own time. The work is lost; fragments survive in Eusebius. He is the principal source for the tradition that St James the Just was thrown from the pinnacle of the Temple.
