The earliest Syriac Christian theologian; presbyter (and perhaps bishop) in the Persian Empire. His twenty-two Demonstrations, arranged according to the letters of the Syriac alphabet, are the earliest sustained witness to Christian theology written outside the Greco-Roman world — antedating the Nicene controversy in its specifically Greek terms.
