Disciple of St Irenaeus and the last Greek-writing theologian of the Roman church. Author of the Refutation of All Heresies (Philosophumena), numerous biblical commentaries, the Treatise on Christ and Antichrist, and a Church Order traditionally associated with the Apostolic Tradition. After a period of schism over Pope St Callistus he was reconciled and died a martyr in the mines of Sardinia.
