Eusebius Sophronius Hieronymus; the great biblical scholar of the early Latin Church. Translator of the Vulgate Bible from the Hebrew and Greek originals — the Bible of the Latin West for more than a millennium. Author of innumerable biblical commentaries, polemical works against the heresies of his day, the Lives of Paul and of Malchus the Captive Monk, and the indispensable Letters. Recognized as a saint in both Eastern and Western tradition.
