Chapter 2

¹ And it came to pass on a certain day,

Job 2:1

² And the Lord said to the devil, Whence comest thou?

Job 2:2

³ And the Lord said to the devil,

Job 2:3

⁴ And the devil answered and said to the Lord,

Job 2:4

⁵ Nay, but put forth thy hand, and touch his bones and his flesh:

Job 2:5

⁶ And the Lord said to the devil, Behold, I deliver him up to thee;

Job 2:6

⁷ So the devil went out from the Lord,

Job 2:7

⁸ And he took a potsherd to scrape away the discharge,

Job 2:8

⁹ And when much time had passed, his wife said to him,

Job 2:9

⁹ a Behold, I wait yet a little while,

Job 2:9

⁹ b For, behold, thy memorial is abolished from the earth,

Job 2:9

⁹ c And thou thyself sittest down to spend the nights in the open air among the corruption of worms,

Job 2:9

⁹ d And I am a wanderer and a servant

Job 2:9

⁹ e But say some word against the Lord, and die.

Job 2:9

¹⁰ But he looked on her, and said to her,

¹¹ Now his three friends having heard of all the evil that was come upon him,

Job 2:11

¹² And when they saw him from a distance they did not know him;

¹³ And they sat down beside him seven days and seven nights,
