Lamentations

Chapter 5

Lamentations · Prophet Jeremiah

¹ Remember, O Lord, what has happened to us:

Lam 5:1

² Our inheritance has been turned away to aliens,

Lam 5:2

³ We are become orphans, we have no father,

Lam 5:3

⁴ We have drunk our water for money;

Lam 5:4

⁵ We have been persecuted,

Lam 5:5

⁶ Egypt gave the hand [to us],

Lam 5:6

⁷ Our fathers sinned, [and] are not:

Lam 5:7

⁸ Servants have ruled over us:

Lam 5:8

⁹ We shall bring in our bread with [danger of] our lives,

Lam 5:9

¹⁰ Our skin is blackened like an oven;

Lam 5:10

¹¹ They humbled the women in Zion,

Lam 5:11

¹² Princes were hanged up by their hands: the elders were not honored.

Lam 5:12

¹³ The chosen men lifted up [the voice in] weeping,

Lam 5:13

¹⁴ And the elders ceased from the gate,

Lam 5:14

¹⁵ The joy of our heart has ceased;

Lam 5:15

¹⁶ The crown has fallen [from] our head:

Lam 5:16

¹⁷ For this has grief come; our heart is sorrowful:

Lam 5:17

¹⁸ Over the mountain of Zion, because it is made desolate,

Lam 5:18

¹⁹ But thou, O Lord, shalt dwell forever;

Lam 5:19

²⁰ Wherefore wilt thou utterly forget us,

Lam 5:20

²¹ Turn us, O Lord, to thee, and we shall be turned;

Lam 5:21

²² For thou hast indeed rejected us;

Lam 5:22
