Chapter 101

¹ A Prayer for the Poor; when he is deeply afflicted, and pours out his supplication before the Lord.

Ps 101:1

² Hear my prayer, O Lord,

Ps 101:2

³ Turn not away thy face from me:

Ps 101:3

⁴ For my days have vanished like smoke,

Ps 101:4

⁵ I am blighted like grass, and my heart is dried up;

Ps 101:5

⁶ By reason of the voice of my groaning,

Ps 101:6

⁷ I have become like a pelican of the wilderness;

Ps 101:7

⁸ I have become like an owl in a ruined house.

Ps 101:8

⁹ All the day long mine enemies have reproached me;

Ps 101:9

¹⁰ For I have eaten ashes as it were bread,

Ps 101:10

¹¹ Because of thine anger and thy wrath:

Ps 101:11

¹² My days have declined like a shadow;

Ps 101:12

¹³ But thou, Lord, endurest forever,

Ps 101:13

¹⁴ Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion:

Ps 101:14

¹⁵ For thy servants have taken pleasure in her stones,

Ps 101:15

¹⁶ So the nations shall fear thy name, O Lord,

Ps 101:16

¹⁷ For the Lord shall build up Zion,

Ps 101:17

¹⁸ He has had regard to the prayer of the lowly,

Ps 101:18

¹⁹ Let this be written for another generation;

Ps 101:19

²⁰ For he has looked out from the height of his sanctuary;

Ps 101:20

²¹ To hear the groaning of the fettered ones,

Ps 101:21

²² To proclaim the name of the Lord in Zion,

Ps 101:22

²³ When the people are gathered together,

Ps 101:23

²⁴ He answered him in the way of his strength:

Ps 101:24

²⁵ Take me not away in the midst of my days:

Ps 101:25

²⁶ In the beginning thou, O Lord, didst lay the foundation of the earth;

Ps 101:26

²⁷ They shall perish, but thou remainest:

Ps 101:27

²⁸ But thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

²⁹ The children of thy servants shall dwell [securely],
