TextA−AA+Bookmarks0← Sirach (Wisdom of Ben Sira)Chapter 11Sir 11:1¹ Wisdom lifteth up the head of him that is of low degree,Sir 11:1Sir 11:2² Commend not a man for his beauty;Sir 11:2Sir 11:3³ The bee is little among such as fly;Sir 11:3Sir 11:4⁴ Boast not of thy clothing and raiment,Sir 11:4Sir 11:5⁵ Many kings have sat down upon the ground;Sir 11:5Sir 11:6⁶ Many mighty men have been greatly disgraced;Sir 11:6Sir 11:7⁷ Blame not before thou hast examined the truth:Sir 11:7Sir 11:8⁸ Answer not before thou hast heard the cause:Sir 11:8Sir 11:9⁹ Strive not in a matter that concerneth thee not;Sir 11:9Sir 11:10¹⁰ My son, meddle not with many matters:Sir 11:10Sir 11:11¹¹ There is one that laboreth, and taketh pains, and maketh haste,Sir 11:11Sir 11:12¹² Again, there is another that is slow, and hath need of help,Sir 11:12Sir 11:13¹³ And lifted up his head from misery;Sir 11:13Sir 11:14¹⁴ Prosperity and adversity, life and death,Sir 11:14Sir 11:17¹⁷ The gift of the Lord remaineth with the godly,Sir 11:17Sir 11:18¹⁸ There is that waxeth rich by his wariness and pinching,Sir 11:18Sir 11:19¹⁹ Whereas he saith, I have found rest,Sir 11:19Sir 11:20²⁰ Be steadfast in thy covenant, and be conversant therein,Sir 11:20Sir 11:21²¹ Marvel not at the works of sinners;Sir 11:21Sir 11:22²² The blessing of the Lord is in the reward of the godly,Sir 11:22Sir 11:23²³ Say not, What profit is there of my service?Sir 11:23Sir 11:24²⁴ Again, say not, I have enough, and possess many things,Sir 11:24Sir 11:25²⁵ In the day of prosperity there is a forgetfulness of affliction:Sir 11:25Sir 11:26²⁶ For it is an easy thing unto the Lord in the day of deathSir 11:26Sir 11:27²⁷ The affliction of an hour maketh a man forget pleasure:Sir 11:27Sir 11:28²⁸ Judge none blessed before his death:Sir 11:28Sir 11:29²⁹ Bring not every man into thy house:Sir 11:29Sir 11:30³⁰ Like as a partridge taken [and kept] in a cage, so is the heart of the proud:Sir 11:30Sir 11:31³¹ For he lieth in wait, and turneth good into evil,Sir 11:31Sir 11:32³² Of a spark of fire a heap of coals is kindled:Sir 11:32Sir 11:33³³ Take heed of a mischievous man, for he worketh wickedness:Sir 11:33Sir 11:34³⁴ Receive a stranger into thy house, and he will disturb thee,Sir 11:34← Chapter 10Chapter 12 →
