Chapter 5

¹ Set not thy heart upon thy goods;

Sir 5:1

² Follow not thine own mind and thy strength,

Sir 5:2

³ And say not, Who shall control me for my works?

Sir 5:3

⁴ Say not, I have sinned, and what harm hath happened unto me?

Sir 5:4

⁵ Concerning propitiation, be not without fear

Sir 5:5

⁶ And say not, His mercy is great;

Sir 5:6

⁷ Make no tarrying to turn to the Lord,

Sir 5:7

⁸ Set not thy heart upon goods unjustly gotten;

Sir 5:8

⁹ Winnow not with every wind,

Sir 5:9

¹⁰ Be steadfast in thy understanding;

Sir 5:10

¹¹ Be swift to hear; and let thy life be sincere;

Sir 5:11

¹² If thou hast understanding, answer thy neighbor;

Sir 5:12

¹³ Honor and shame is in talk:

Sir 5:13

¹⁴ Be not called a whisperer, and lie not in wait with thy tongue:

Sir 5:14

¹⁵ Be not ignorant of anything in a great matter or a small.
