Chapter 22

¹ And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead: for the band of robbers that came against them, even the Arabians and the Alimazonians, had slain all the elder ones. So Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.

ΚΑΙ ἐβασίλευσαν οἱ κατοικοῦντες ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ τὸν Ὀχοζίαν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ τὸν μικρὸν ἀντ' αὐτοῦ, ὅτι πάντας τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους ἀπέκτεινε τὸ ἐπελθὸν ἐπ' αὐτοὺς λῃστήριον, οἱ Ἄραβες καὶ οἱ Ἀλιμοζονεῖς· καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν Ὀχοζίας υἱὸς Ἰωρὰμ βασιλέως Ἰούδα.

² Ahaziah began to reign when he was twenty years old, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri. ³ And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab; for his mother was his counselor to do evil. ⁴ And he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord as the house of Ahab [had done]: for they were his counselors after the death of his father to his destruction. ⁵ And he walked in their counsels, and he went with Joram son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria to Ramoth-gilead: and the archers smote Joram. ⁶ And Joram returned to Jezreel to be healed of the wounds wherewith the Syrians smote him in Ramoth, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria.

ὢν ἐτῶν εἴκοσιν Ὀχοζίας ἐβασίλευσε καὶ ἐνιαυτὸν ἕνα ἐβασίλευσεν ἐν Ἱερουσαλήμ, καὶ ὄνομα τῇ μητρὶ αὐτοῦ Γοθολία θυγάτηρ Ἀμβρί. καὶ οὗτος ἐπορεύθη ἐν ὁδῷ οἴκου Ἀχαάβ, ὅτι μήτηρ αὐτοῦ ἦν σύμβουλος τοῦ ἁμαρτάνειν· καὶ ἐποίησε τὸ πονηρὸν ἐναντίον Κυρίου ὡς οἶκος Ἀχαάβ, ὅτι αὐτοὶ ἦσαν αὐτῷ σύμβουλοι μετὰ τὸ ἀποθανεῖν τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ, τοῦ ἐξολοθρεῦσαι αὐτόν, καὶ ἐν ταῖς βουλαῖς αὐτῶν ἐπορεύθη καὶ ἐπορεύθη μετὰ Ἰωρὰμ υἱοῦ Ἀχαὰβ βασιλέως Ἰσραὴλ εἰς πόλεμον ἐπὶ Ἀζαὴλ βασιλέα Συρίας εἰς Ραμὼθ Γαλαάδ· καὶ ἐπάταξαν οἱ τοξόται τὸν Ἰωράμ. καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν Ἰωρὰμ τοῦ ἰατρευθῆναι εἰς Ἰεζράελ ἀπὸ τῶν πληγῶν, ὧν ἐπάταξαν αὐτὸν οἱ Σύροι ἐν Ραμὼθ ἐν τῷ πολεμεῖν αὐτὸν πρὸς Ἀζαὴλ βασιλέα Συρίας· καὶ Ὀχοζίας υἱὸς Ἰωρὰμ βασιλεὺς Ἰούδα κατέβη θεάσασθαι τὸν Ἰωρὰμ υἱὸν Ἀχαὰβ εἰς Ἰεζράελ, ὅτι ἠρρώστει.

⁷ And destruction from God came upon Ahaziah in [his] coming to Joram; for when he had come, Jehoram went out with him against Jehu the son of Nimshi, the anointed of the Lord against the house of Ahab.

καὶ παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐγένετο καταστροφὴ Ὀχοζίᾳ ἐλθεῖν πρὸς Ἰωράμ· καὶ ἐν τῷ ἐλθεῖν αὐτὸν ἐξῆλθε μετ' αὐτοῦ Ἰωρὰμ πρὸς Ἰοὺ υἱὸν Ναμεσσεΐ χριστὸν Κυρίου εἰς τὸν οἶκον Ἀχαάβ.

⁸ And it came to pass, when Jehu was taking vengeance on the house of Ahab, that he found the princes of Judah and the brethren of Ahaziah ministering to Ahaziah, and he slew them. ⁹ And he gave orders to seek Ahaziah: and they took him while he was healing his wounds in Samaria, and they brought him to Jehu, and he slew him; and they buried him, for they said, He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart.

καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἐξεδίκησεν Ἰοὺ τὸν οἶκον Ἀχαάβ, καὶ εὗρε τοὺς ἄρχοντας Ἰούδα καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς Ὀχοζίου λειτουργοῦντας τῷ Ὀχοζίᾳ καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτούς. καὶ εἶπε τοῦ ζητῆσαι τὸν Ὀχοζίαν, καὶ κατέλαβον αὐτὸν ἰατρευόμενον ἐν Σαμαρείᾳ καὶ ἤγαγον αὐτὸν πρὸς Ἰού, καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτὸν καὶ ἔθαψαν αὐτόν, ὅτι εἶπαν· υἱὸς Ἰωσαφάτ ἐστιν, ὃς ἐζήτησε τὸν Κύριον ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ. καὶ οὐκ ἦν ἐν οἴκῳ Ὀχοζίᾳ κατισχῦσαι δύναμιν περὶ τῆς βασιλείας.

¹⁰ And Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, and she arose and destroyed all the seed royal in the house of Judah. ¹¹ But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah and rescued him secretly out of the midst of the sons of the king that were put to death, and she placed him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath daughter of King Jehoram, sister of Ahaziah, wife of Jehoiada the priest, hid him, and she [even] hid him from Athaliah, and she did not slay him. ¹² And he was with him hidden in the house of God six years; and Athaliah reigned over the land.

Καὶ Γοθολία ἡ μήτηρ Ὀχοζίου εἶδεν ὅτι τέθνηκεν ὁ υἱὸς αὐτῆς καὶ ἠγέρθη καὶ ἀπώλεσε πᾶν τὸ σπέρμα τῆς βασιλείας ἐν οἴκῳ Ἰούδα. καὶ ἔλαβεν Ἰωσαβὲθ θυγάτηρ τοῦ βασιλέως τὸν Ἰωὰς υἱὸν Ὀχοζίου καὶ ἔκλεψεν αὐτὸν ἐκ μέσου υἱῶν τοῦ βασιλέως τῶν θανατουμένων καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὸν καὶ τὴν τροφὸν αὐτοῦ εἰς ταμιεῖον τῶν κλινῶν· καὶ ἔκρυψεν αὐτὸν Ἰωσαβὲθ θυγάτηρ τοῦ βασιλέως Ἰωράμ, ἀδελφὴ Ὀχοζίου, γυνὴ Ἰωδαὲ τοῦ ἱερέως, καὶ ἔκρυψεν αὐτὸν ἀπὸ προσώπου τῆς Γοθολίας, καὶ οὐκ ἀπέκτεινεν αὐτόν. καὶ ἦν μετ' αὐτοῦ ἐν οἴκῳ τοῦ Θεοῦ κατακεκρυμμένος ἓξ ἔτη, καὶ Γοθολία ἐβασίλευσεν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.
