Chapter 16

¹ But Job answered and said,

Job 16:1

² I have heard many such things:

Job 16:2

³ What! is there any reason in vain words?

Job 16:3

⁴ I also will speak as ye [do]:

Job 16:4

⁵ And would there were strength in my mouth,

Job 16:5

⁶ For if I should speak, I shall not feel the pain of my wound:

Job 16:6

⁷ But now he has made me weary, and a worn-out fool;

Job 16:7

⁸ My falsehood has become a testimony,

Job 16:8

⁹ In his anger he has cast me down;

Job 16:9

¹⁰ He has attacked me with the keen glances of his eyes;

Job 16:10

¹¹ For the Lord has delivered me into the hands of unrighteous men,

Job 16:11

¹² When I was at peace he distracted me:

Job 16:12

¹³ They surrounded me with spears,

Job 16:13

¹⁴ They overthrew me with fall upon fall:

Job 16:14

¹⁵ They sewed sackcloth upon my skin,

Job 16:15

¹⁶ My belly has been parched with wailing,

Job 16:16

¹⁷ Yet there was no injustice in my hands,

Job 16:17

¹⁸ Earth, cover not over the blood of my flesh,

Job 16:18

¹⁹ And now, behold, my witness is in heaven,

Job 16:19

²⁰ Let my supplication come to the Lord,

Job 16:20

²¹ Oh that a man might plead before the Lord,

Job 16:21

²² But my years are numbered and [their end] come,

Job 16:22
