Lamentations

Chapter 3

Lamentations · Prophet Jeremiah

¹ I am the man that sees poverty,

Lam 3:1

² He has taken me, and led me away into darkness,

Lam 3:2

³ Nay, against me has he turned his hand all the day.

Lam 3:3

⁴ He has made old my flesh and my skin;

Lam 3:4

⁵ He has built against me, and compassed my head,

Lam 3:5

⁶ He has set me in dark places,

Lam 3:6

⁷ He has built against me, and I cannot come forth:

Lam 3:7

⁸ Yea, [though] I cry and shout,

Lam 3:8

⁹ He has built up my ways,

Lam 3:9

¹⁰ He has troubled me,

Lam 3:10

¹¹ He pursued [me] after I departed,

Lam 3:11

¹² He has bent his bow,

Lam 3:12

¹³ He has caused the arrows of his quiver

Lam 3:13

¹⁴ I became a laughingstock to all my people;

Lam 3:14

¹⁵ He has filled me with bitterness,

Lam 3:15

¹⁶ And he has dashed out my teeth with gravel,

Lam 3:16

¹⁷ He has also removed my soul from peace:

Lam 3:17

¹⁸ Therefore my success has perished,

Lam 3:18

¹⁹ I remembered by reason of my poverty,

Lam 3:19

²⁰ And my soul shall meditate with me.

Lam 3:20

²¹ This will I lay up in my heart,

Lam 3:21

²² [It is] the mercies of the Lord,

Lam 3:22

²³ [They are] new every morning:

Lam 3:23

²⁴ The Lord is my portion, says my soul;

Lam 3:24

²⁵ The Lord is good to them that wait for him:

Lam 3:25

²⁶ [Is] good, and shall wait for,

Lam 3:26

²⁷ [It is] good for a man

Lam 3:27

²⁸ He will sit alone, and be silent,

Lam 3:28

³⁰ He will give [his] cheek to him that smites him:

Lam 3:30

³¹ For the Lord will not reject forever.

Lam 3:31

³² For he that has brought down will pity,

Lam 3:32

³³ He has not answered [in anger] from his heart,

Lam 3:33

³⁴ To bring down under his feet

Lam 3:34

³⁵ To turn aside the judgment of a man

Lam 3:35

³⁶ To condemn a man [unjustly] in his judgment,

Lam 3:36

³⁷ Who has thus spoken, and it has come to pass?

Lam 3:37

³⁸ Out of the mouth of the Most High

Lam 3:38

³⁹ Why should a living man complain,

Lam 3:39

⁴⁰ Our way has been searched out and examined,

Lam 3:40

⁴¹ Let us lift up our hearts with [our] hands

Lam 3:41

⁴² We have sinned,

Lam 3:42

⁴³ Thou hast visited [us] in wrath,

Lam 3:43

⁴⁴ Thou hast veiled thyself with a cloud

Lam 3:44

⁴⁵ And be cast off.

Lam 3:45

⁴⁶ All our enemies have opened their mouth against us.

Lam 3:46

⁴⁷ Fear and wrath are come upon us,

Lam 3:47

⁴⁸ Mine eye shall pour down torrents of water,

Lam 3:48

⁴⁹ Mine eye is drowned [with tears],

Lam 3:49

⁵⁰ Until the Lord look down,

Lam 3:50

⁵¹ Mine eye shall prey upon my soul,

Lam 3:51

⁵² The fowlers chased me as a sparrow,

Lam 3:52

⁵³ And laid a stone upon me.

Lam 3:53

⁵⁴ Water flowed over my head:

Lam 3:54

⁵⁵ I called upon thy name, O Lord,

Lam 3:55

⁵⁶ Thou heardest my voice:

Lam 3:56

⁵⁷ Thou drewest nigh to my help:

Lam 3:57

⁵⁸ O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul;

Lam 3:58

⁵⁹ Thou hast seen, O Lord, my troubles:

Lam 3:59

⁶⁰ Thou hast seen all their vengeance,

Lam 3:60

⁶¹ Thou hast heard their reproach

Lam 3:61

⁶² The lips of them that rose up against me,

Lam 3:62

⁶³ Their sitting down and their rising up:

Lam 3:63

⁶⁴ Thou wilt render them a recompense, O Lord,

Lam 3:64

⁶⁵ Thou wilt give them [as] a covering,

Lam 3:65

⁶⁶ Thou wilt persecute them in anger,

Lam 3:66
