Chapter 24

Proverbs · King Solomon

¹ [My] son, envy not bad men,

Pr 24:1

² For their heart meditates falsehoods,

Pr 24:2

³ A house is built by wisdom,

Pr 24:3

⁴ By discretion the chambers are filled

Pr 24:4

⁵ A wise man is better than a strong man;

Pr 24:5

⁶ War is carried on with generalship,

Pr 24:6

⁷ Wisdom and good understanding are in the gates of the wise:

Pr 24:7

⁸ But deliberate in council.

Pr 24:8

⁹ The fool also dies in sins;

Pr 24:9

¹⁰ He shall be defiled in the evil day,

Pr 24:10

¹¹ Deliver them that are led away to death,

Pr 24:11

¹² But if thou shouldest say, I know not this man;

Pr 24:12

¹³ [My] son, eat honey, for the honeycomb is good,

Pr 24:13

¹⁴ Thus shalt thou perceive wisdom in thy soul:

Pr 24:14

¹⁵ Bring not an ungodly man into the dwelling of the righteous:

Pr 24:15

¹⁶ For a righteous man will fall seven times, and rise [again]:

Pr 24:16

¹⁷ If thine enemy should fall, rejoice not over him,

Pr 24:17

¹⁸ For the Lord will see [it], and it will not please him,

Pr 24:18

¹⁹ Rejoice not in evildoers,

Pr 24:19

²⁰ For the evil man shall have no posterity:

Pr 24:20

²¹ [My] son, fear God and the king;

Pr 24:21

²² For they will suddenly punish the ungodly,

Pr 24:22

²² a A son that keeps the commandment shall escape destruction;

Pr 24:22

²² b Let no falsehood be spoken by the king from the tongue;

Pr 24:22

²² c The king’s tongue is a sword, and not one of flesh;

Pr 24:22

²² d For if his wrath should be provoked,

Pr 24:22

²² e And devours men’s bones,

Pr 24:22

²² f [My] son, reverence my words,

Pr 24:22

²² g For I am the most simple of all men,

Pr 24:22

²² h God has taught me wisdom,

Pr 24:22

²² i Who has gone up to heaven, and come down?

Pr 24:22

²² k For all the words of God are tried in the fire,

Pr 24:22

²² l Add not unto his words,

Pr 24:22

²² m Two things I ask of thee;

Pr 24:22

²² n Remove far from me vanity and falsehood:

Pr 24:22

²² o Lest I be filled and become false, and say, Who sees me?

Pr 24:22

²² p Deliver not a servant into the hands of his master,

Pr 24:22

²² q A wicked generation curse their father,

Pr 24:22

²² r A wicked generation judge themselves to be just,

Pr 24:22

²² s A wicked generation have lofty eyes,

Pr 24:22

²² t A wicked generation have swords [for] teeth and jaw teeth [as] knives,

Pr 24:22

²³ And this thing I say to you that are wise [for you] to learn:

Pr 24:23

²⁴ He that says of the ungodly, He is righteous,

Pr 24:24

²⁵ But they that reprove [him] shall appear more excellent,

Pr 24:25

²⁶ And [men] will kiss lips that answer well.

Pr 24:26

²⁷ Prepare thy works for [thy] going forth,

Pr 24:27

²⁸ Be not a false witness against thy [fellow] citizen,

Pr 24:28

²⁹ Say not, As he has treated me, so will I treat him,

Pr 24:29

³⁰ A foolish man is like a farm,

Pr 24:30

³¹ If thou let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with weeds;

Pr 24:31

³² Afterward I reflected,

Pr 24:32

³³ [The sluggard says], I slumber a little, and I sleep a little,

Pr 24:33

³⁴ But if thou do this, thy poverty will come speedily;

Pr 24:34

³⁵ The horseleech had three dearly beloved daughters:

Pr 24:35

³⁶ The grave, and the love of a woman,

Pr 24:36

³⁷ The eye that laughs to scorn a father, and dishonors the old age of a mother,

Pr 24:37

³⁸ Moreover there are three things impossible for me to comprehend,

Pr 24:38

³⁹ The track of a flying eagle;

Pr 24:39

⁴⁰ Such is the way of an adulterous woman,

Pr 24:40

⁴¹ By three things the earth is troubled,

Pr 24:41

⁴² If a servant reign;

Pr 24:42

⁴³ Or if a maidservant should cast out her own mistress;

Pr 24:43

⁴⁴ And [there are] four very little things upon the earth,

Pr 24:44

⁴⁵ The ants which are weak,

Pr 24:45

⁴⁶ The rabbits also [are] a feeble race,

Pr 24:46

⁴⁷ The locusts have no king,

Pr 24:47

⁴⁸ And the eft, which supports itself by [its] hands, and is easily taken,

Pr 24:48

⁴⁹ And there are three things which go well,

Pr 24:49

⁵⁰ A lion’s whelp, stronger than [all other] beasts,

Pr 24:50

⁵¹ And a cock walking in boldly among the hens,

Pr 24:51

⁵² If thou abandon thyself to mirth,

Pr 24:52

⁵³ Milk out milk, and there shall be butter,

Pr 24:53

⁵⁴ My words have been spoken by God—

Pr 24:54

⁵⁵ What wilt thou keep, my son, what? the words of God.

Pr 24:55

⁵⁶ Give not thy wealth to women,

Pr 24:56

⁵⁷ Princes are prone to anger:

Pr 24:57

⁵⁸ Lest they drink, and forget wisdom,

Pr 24:58

⁵⁹ Give strong drink to those that are in sorrow,

Pr 24:59

⁶⁰ That they may forget their poverty,

Pr 24:60

⁶¹ Open thy mouth with the word of God,

Pr 24:61

⁶² Open thy mouth and judge justly,

Pr 24:62
