Chapter 18

Proverbs · King Solomon

¹ A man who wishes to separate from friends seeks excuses;

Pr 18:1

² A senseless man feels no need of wisdom,

Pr 18:2

³ When an ungodly man comes into a depth of evils, he despises [them];

Pr 18:3

⁴ A word in the heart of a man is a deep water,

Pr 18:4

⁵ [It is] not good to accept the person of the ungodly,

Pr 18:5

⁶ The lips of a fool bring [him] into troubles,

Pr 18:6

⁷ A fool’s mouth is ruin to him,

Pr 18:7

⁸ Fear casts down the slothful;

Pr 18:8

⁹ A man who helps not himself by his labor

Pr 18:9

¹⁰ The name of the Lord is of great strength;

Pr 18:10

¹¹ The wealth of a rich man is a strong city;

Pr 18:11

¹² Before ruin a man’s heart is exalted,

Pr 18:12

¹³ Whoso answers a word before he hears [a cause],

Pr 18:13

¹⁴ A wise servant calms a man’s anger;

Pr 18:14

¹⁵ The heart of the sensible [man] purchases discretion;

Pr 18:15

¹⁶ A man’s gift enlarges him,

Pr 18:16

¹⁷ A righteous man accuses himself at the beginning of his speech,

Pr 18:17

¹⁸ A silent [man] quells strifes,

Pr 18:18

¹⁹ A brother helped by a brother is as a strong and high city;

Pr 18:19

²⁰ A man fills his belly with the fruits of his mouth;

Pr 18:20

²¹ Life and death are in the power of the tongue;

Pr 18:21

²² He that has found a good wife has found favors,

Pr 18:22

²² a He that puts away a good wife, puts away a good thing,
