TextA−AA+Bookmarks0← ProverbsChapter 6Proverbs · King SolomonPr 6:1¹ [My] son, if thou become surety for thy friend,Pr 6:1Pr 6:2² For a man’s own lips become a strong snare to him,Pr 6:2Pr 6:3³ [My] son, do what I command thee, and deliver thyself;Pr 6:3Pr 6:4⁴ Give not sleep to thine eyes,Pr 6:4Pr 6:5⁵ That thou mayest deliver thyself as a doe out of the toils,Pr 6:5Pr 6:6⁶ Go to the ant, O sluggard;Pr 6:6Pr 6:7⁷ For whereas he has no husbandry,Pr 6:7Pr 6:8⁸ He prepares food for himself in the summer,Pr 6:8Pr 6:8⁸ a Or go to the bee,Pr 6:8Pr 6:8⁸ b Whose labors kings and private men use for health,Pr 6:8Pr 6:8⁸ c Though weak in body,Pr 6:8Pr 6:9⁹ How long wilt thou lie, O sluggard?Pr 6:9Pr 6:10¹⁰ Thou sleepest a little, and thou restest a little, and thou slumberest a short [time],Pr 6:10Pr 6:11¹¹ Then poverty comes upon thee as an evil traveler,Pr 6:11Pr 6:11¹¹ a But if thou be diligent, thy harvest shall arrive as a fountain,Pr 6:11Pr 6:12¹² A foolish man and a transgressorPr 6:12Pr 6:13¹³ And the same winks with the eye, and makes a sign with his foot,Pr 6:13Pr 6:14¹⁴ [His] perverse heart devises evils:Pr 6:14Pr 6:15¹⁵ Therefore his destruction shall come suddenly;Pr 6:15Pr 6:16¹⁶ For he rejoices in all things which God hates,Pr 6:16Pr 6:17¹⁷ The eye of the haughty, a tongue unjust,Pr 6:17Pr 6:18¹⁸ And a heart devising evil thoughts,Pr 6:18Pr 6:19¹⁹ An unjust witness kindles falsehoods,Pr 6:19Pr 6:20²⁰ [My] son, keep the laws of thy father,Pr 6:20Pr 6:21²¹ But bind them upon thy soul continually,Pr 6:21Pr 6:22²² Whensoever thou walkest, lead this along and let it be with thee;Pr 6:22Pr 6:23²³ For the commandment of the law is a lamp and a light;Pr 6:23Pr 6:24²⁴ To keep thee continually from a married woman,Pr 6:24Pr 6:25²⁵ Let not the desire of beauty overcome thee,Pr 6:25Pr 6:26²⁶ For the value of a harlot is as much as of one loaf;Pr 6:26Pr 6:27²⁷ Shall anyone bind fire in his bosom,Pr 6:27Pr 6:28²⁸ Or will anyone walk on coals of fire,Pr 6:28Pr 6:29²⁹ So is he that goes in to a married woman;Pr 6:29Pr 6:30³⁰ It is not to be wondered at if one should be taken stealing,Pr 6:30Pr 6:31³¹ But if he should be taken, he shall repay sevenfold,Pr 6:31Pr 6:32³² But the adulterer through want of sense procures destruction to his soul.Pr 6:32Pr 6:33³³ He endures both pain and disgrace,Pr 6:33Pr 6:34³⁴ For the soul of her husband is full of jealousy:Pr 6:34Pr 6:35³⁵ He will not forego [his] enmity for any ransom:Pr 6:35← Chapter 5Chapter 7 →
