Chapter 8

¹ Thou shalt proclaim wisdom,

Pr 8:1

² For she is on lofty eminences,

Pr 8:2

³ For she sits by the gates of princes,

Pr 8:3

⁴ You, O men, I exhort;

Pr 8:4

⁵ O ye simple, understand subtlety,

Pr 8:5

⁶ Hearken to me; for I will speak solemn [truths];

Pr 8:6

⁷ For my throat shall meditate truth;

Pr 8:7

⁸ All the words of my mouth are in righteousness;

Pr 8:8

⁹ They are all evident to those that understand,

Pr 8:9

¹⁰ Receive instruction, and not silver;

Pr 8:10

¹¹ For wisdom is better than precious stones;

Pr 8:11

¹² I wisdom have dwelt [with] counsel and knowledge,

Pr 8:12

¹³ The fear of the Lord hates unrighteousness,

Pr 8:13

¹⁴ Counsel and safety are mine:

Pr 8:14

¹⁵ By me kings reign,

Pr 8:15

¹⁶ By me nobles become great,

Pr 8:16

¹⁷ I love those that love me;

Pr 8:17

¹⁸ Wealth and glory belong to me;

Pr 8:18

¹⁹ [It is] better to have my fruit than [to have] gold and precious stones;

Pr 8:19

²⁰ I walk in ways of righteousness,

Pr 8:20

²¹ That I may divide substance to them that love me,

Pr 8:21

²¹ a If I declare to you the things that daily happen,

Pr 8:21

²² The Lord made me the beginning of his ways for his works.

Pr 8:22

²³ He established me before time [was] in the beginning,

Pr 8:23

²⁴ even before he made the depths;

Pr 8:24

²⁵ Before the mountains were settled,

Pr 8:25

²⁶ The Lord made countries and uninhabited [tracts],

Pr 8:26

²⁷ When he prepared the heaven, I was present with him;

Pr 8:27

²⁸ And when he strengthened the clouds above;

Pr 8:28

²⁹ And when he strengthened the foundations of the earth:

Pr 8:29

³⁰ I was by him, suiting [myself to him],

Pr 8:30

³¹ For he rejoiced when he had completed the world,

Pr 8:31

³² Now then, [my] son, hear me:

Pr 8:32

³⁴ Watching daily at my doors,

Pr 8:34

³⁵ For my outgoings are the outgoings of life,

Pr 8:35

³⁶ But they that sin against me act wickedly against their own souls:
