Chapter 9

Proverbs · King Solomon

¹ Wisdom has built a house for herself,

Pr 9:1

² She has killed her beasts;

Pr 9:2

³ She has sent forth her servants,

Pr 9:3

⁴ Whoso is foolish, let him turn aside to me:

Pr 9:4

⁵ Come, eat of my bread,

Pr 9:5

⁶ Leave folly, that ye may reign forever;

Pr 9:6

⁷ He that reproves evil [men] shall get dishonor to himself;

Pr 9:7

⁸ Rebuke not evil [men], lest they should hate thee:

Pr 9:8

⁹ Give an opportunity to a wise [man], and he will be wiser:

Pr 9:9

¹⁰ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,

Pr 9:10

¹⁰ a For to know the law is [the character] of a sound mind.

Pr 9:10

¹¹ For in this way thou shalt live long,

Pr 9:11

¹² Son, if thou be wise for thyself, thou shalt also be wise for thy neighbors;

Pr 9:12

¹² a He that stays himself upon falsehoods, attempts to rule the winds,

Pr 9:12

¹² b For he has forsaken the ways of his own vineyard,

Pr 9:12

¹² c And he goes through a dry desert,

¹³ A foolish and bold woman, who knows not modesty,

Pr 9:13

¹⁴ She sits at the doors of her house,

Pr 9:14

¹⁵ Calling to passers by,

Pr 9:15

¹⁶ [saying],

Pr 9:16

¹⁷ Take and enjoy secret bread,

Pr 9:17

¹⁸ But he knows that mighty men die by her,

Pr 9:18

¹⁸ a But hasten away, delay not in the place,

Pr 9:18

¹⁸ b For thus shalt thou go through strange water;

Pr 9:18

¹⁸ c But do thou abstain from strange water,

Pr 9:18

¹⁸ d That thou mayest live long,
