Chapter 49

¹ The remembrance of Josiah is like the composition of the perfume

Sir 49:1

² He behaved himself uprightly in the conversion of the people,

Sir 49:2

³ He directed his heart unto the Lord,

Sir 49:3

⁴ All, except David and Hezekiah and Josiah, were defective:

⁵ For they gave their power unto others,

Sir 49:5

⁶ They burned the chosen city of the sanctuary,

Sir 49:6

⁷ For they entreated him evil,

Sir 49:7

⁸ It was Ezekiel who saw the glorious vision,

Sir 49:8

⁹ For he made mention of the enemies under [the figure of] the rain,

Sir 49:9

¹⁰ And of the twelve prophets let the memorial be blessed,

Sir 49:10

¹¹ How shall we magnify Zerubbabel?

Sir 49:11

¹² So was Jeshua the son of Jozadak:

Sir 49:12

¹³ And among the elect was Nehemiah,

Sir 49:13

¹⁴ But upon the earth was no man created like Enoch;

Sir 49:14

¹⁵ Neither was there a man born like unto Joseph,

¹⁶ Shem and Seth were in great honor among men,
