Chapter 88

Psalms · King David

¹ [A Psalm] of instruction for Ethan the Israelite.

Ps 88:1

² I will sing of thy mercies, O Lord, forever:

Ps 88:2

³ For thou hast said, Mercy shall be built up forever:

Ps 88:3

⁴ I made a covenant with my chosen ones,

Ps 88:4

⁵ I will establish thy seed forever,

Ps 88:5

⁶ The heavens shall declare thy wonders, O Lord;

Ps 88:6

⁷ For who in the heavens shall be compared to the Lord?

Ps 88:7

⁸ God is glorified in the council of the saints;

Ps 88:8

⁹ O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee?

Ps 88:9

¹⁰ Thou rulest the power of the sea;

Ps 88:10

¹¹ Thou hast brought down the proud as one that is slain;

Ps 88:11

¹² The heavens are thine, and the earth is thine:

Ps 88:12

¹³ Thou hast created the north and the west:

Ps 88:13

¹⁴ Thine is the mighty arm:

Ps 88:14

¹⁵ Justice and judgment are the establishment of thy throne:

Ps 88:15

¹⁶ Blessed is the people that knows the joyful sound:

Ps 88:16

¹⁷ And in thy name shall they rejoice all the day:

Ps 88:17

¹⁸ For thou art the boast of their strength;

Ps 88:18

¹⁹ For [our] help is of the Lord;

Ps 88:19

²⁰ Then thou spokest in vision to thy children,

Ps 88:20

²¹ I have found David my servant;

Ps 88:21

²² For my hand shall support him;

Ps 88:22

²³ The enemy shall have no advantage against him;

Ps 88:23

²⁴ And I will hew down his foes before him,

Ps 88:24

²⁵ But my truth and my mercy shall be with him;

Ps 88:25

²⁶ And I will set his hand in the sea,

Ps 88:26

²⁷ He shall call upon me, [saying], Thou art my Father,

Ps 88:27

²⁸ And I will make him [my] firstborn,

Ps 88:28

²⁹ I will keep my mercy for him forever,

Ps 88:29

³⁰ And I will establish his seed forever and ever,

Ps 88:30

³¹ If his children should forsake my law,

Ps 88:31

³² If they should profane my ordinances,

Ps 88:32

³³ I will visit their transgressions with a rod,

Ps 88:33

³⁴ But my mercy I will not utterly remove from him,

Ps 88:34

³⁵ Neither will I by any means profane my covenant;

Ps 88:35

³⁶ Once have I sworn by my holiness, that I will not lie to David.

Ps 88:36

³⁷ His seed shall endure forever,

Ps 88:37

³⁸ And as the moon [that is] established forever,

Ps 88:38

³⁹ But thou hast cast off and set at nought,

Ps 88:39

⁴⁰ Thou hast overthrown the covenant of thy servant;

Ps 88:40

⁴¹ Thou hast broken down all his hedges;

Ps 88:41

⁴² All that go by the way have spoiled him:

Ps 88:42

⁴³ Thou hast exalted the right hand of his enemies;

Ps 88:43

⁴⁴ Thou hast turned back the help of his sword,

Ps 88:44

⁴⁵ Thou hast deprived him of glory:

Ps 88:45

⁴⁶ Thou hast shortened the days of his throne:

Ps 88:46

⁴⁷ How long, O Lord, wilt thou turn away, forever?

Ps 88:47

⁴⁸ Remember what my being is:

Ps 88:48

⁴⁹ What man is there who shall live, and not see death?

Ps 88:49

⁵⁰ Where are thine ancient mercies, O Lord,

Ps 88:50

⁵¹ Remember, O Lord, the reproach of thy servants,

Ps 88:51

⁵² Wherewith thine enemies have reviled, O Lord:

Ps 88:52

⁵³ Blessed be the Lord forever.
